Lease Mileage Allowance Needed Calculator

Compare mileage tiers before you sign, by total cost, not just the advertised payment.

Tier A
Tier B
Tier C

Why this comes up

The advertised lease payment usually assumes the lowest mileage tier. Buying more allowance upfront is almost always priced lower per mile than paying overage at lease end, so under-negotiating the allowance to keep the sticker payment low is rarely the cheapest real outcome for a driver who will actually exceed it.

How we calculated this

For each tier, we compare its upfront allowance cost plus any overage on your expected mileage against the other tiers, and recommend whichever produces the lowest total cost for your actual expected driving.

Worked example, using this page's own defaults (13,000 expected annual miles, 36-month term, three tiers at 10k/12k/15k): run the calculator above to see which tier wins for your own numbers.

What this means

  • If your expected mileage is uncertain, run this with a higher estimate too, overage fees are usually much more expensive per mile than upfront allowance.
  • Already signed with a set allowance? Lease Mileage Overage Calculator prices your specific overage directly.
  • A specific mid-lease mileage package offer? See Buy Extra Lease Miles vs Pay Overage.

Limitations

Upfront tier costs are whatever the dealer quotes you; this does not negotiate or estimate them. Assumes one overage fee applies across all tiers, confirm this against your actual contract. See Methodology.

Methodology

This engine uses Vehicle Economics' lease mileage overage formula across each candidate tier. See Methodology for the full detail.
